Classroom: My classroom follows the Utah State Core & Content standards using Wonders Literacy materials, My Math (Houghton Mifflin), and the Lexia online computer program as support materials. I design my curriculum based on the social, emotional, and academic needs of your child using center rotations to give each child as much individualized instruction as possible. I incorporate parent volunteers in my classroom almost every day in order to provide more one-on-one interaction. Please consider signing up to come in and work in our classroom. Children love it when their Mom, Dad, Aunt, Uncle, Grandma, Grandpa, etc. comes into the classroom and it increases the feeling of family, safety, and community that I try to encourage in my classroom. The students will also go to Computers, Art, P.E., and Music during the year. Please provide a backpack for your child to bring to school each day.

Communication: I will be using Kaymbu for parent/teacher communication this year. Kaymbu is a program that meets or exceeds industry best-practices and couples them with security features specific to school environments. Through this program I will be able to send newsletters, pictures of your children at work, and classroom notifications to the email that you provide to me.
Birthdays: During (or close to) your child’s Birthday month, he/she will be assigned a week to be our star student. During that time, you will be asked to send in a poster with pictures of your child, family, pets, activities, vacations, etc. Please include favorites such as foods, colors, and hobbies. Your child will be asked to talk about his/her poster to the class. You may send in a special birthday treat during your child’s star student week. Please try to bring in nonfood items as treats if possible (pencils, crayons, etc.) If you choose to send a food treat it must be store bought. School District policy will not allow homemade items to be brought in.

Behavior: I believe that all children are in the process of learning correct behavior and will act appropriately when barriers to poor behavior are removed. In my classroom when a student acts in an improper way they will be sent to “time out” for a few minutes to reflect on how they can change their behavior and then given the chance to return to classroom activities.
Attendance: In Kindergarten learning is hands on, interactive, and individualized. For this reason, if your student misses class I will not send home make up work. District regulations require a responsible person to sign in at the office when taking a child out of school. For safety reasons, we cannot let a child leave without that statement.

Homework: There is no homework required in my kindergarten classroom. However, I will be sending home a monthly packet of learning games for your family to use as a support for what is being done in school. The goal of these monthly packets is to provide you with support for your family time. Students usually cheer when they receive these packets and are excited to take home games and books to share at home.
